Poole and Parkstone Players are thrilled to have secured the rights for A Bunch of Amateurs by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman, the hilarious adaptation of the 2008 film of the same name.
Keen to boost his flagging career, fading Hollywood action hero Jefferson Steele arrives in England to play King Lear in Stratford – only to find that it is not the birthplace of the Bard, but a sleepy Suffolk village. Instead of Kenneth Branagh and Dame Judi Dench, the cast are a Bunch of Amateurs trying to save their theatre from developers. Jefferson’s monstrous ego, vanity and insecurity are tested to the limit by the enthusiastic am-dram thespians. As acting worlds collide and Jefferson’s career implodes, he discovers some truths about himself – along with his inner Lear!
Directed by Bob Rankin, A Bunch of Amateurs will be at Bournemouth Little Theatre, Jameson Road, Winton BH9 2QD from 22 to 24 February at 745. Tickets £10. Email email@example.com or telephone 01202 679390 for more information and to book tickets.
