Focussing on plays for women

Next year Arena Theatre will be focussing on plays for women, in either a performing or a directing capacity. The first plays of the season will be a double bill of Fleabag by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and The Nether by Jennifer Haley. These will be performed in April 2018.

Fleabag is a precision black-humour comedy, a warped and affecting fable about one single woman’s existence. It is laugh-out-loud funny, smutty-giggly, caustic, observant about the ugliness of both sexes, and occasionally surreal. The Nether is a virtual wonderland that provides total sensory immersion. Just log in, choose an identity and indulge your every desire. But when a young detective uncovers a disturbing brand of entertainment, she triggers an interrogation into the darkest corners of the imagination.

Although both plays are female-focussed, there are male roles in both.

Read-through for both plays will be on Monday 4 December and auditions a week later on Monday 11 December. Both events will be held at Pokesdown Primary School, Livingstone Road BH5 2AS, starting at 7.30pm. Arena don’t have a membership so no fees at all are payable. Absolutely no pre-casting has taken place: Arena offer parts on merit, not mates. Everyone is welcome.
